As a global publisher of print and electronic products Wiley provides quality content and services to our customers where, when and how they need it. Our must-have content includes scientific, technical, and medical (STM) journals, encyclopedias, books; professional and consumer books; and educational materials for undergraduate and graduate students and lifelong learners.
Wiley was among the first publishers to offer digital access to its content through our online service, Wiley InterScience. Since its commercial launch in 1999, Wiley InterScience has become a premier online source for primary research material from the scientific, technical, medical, and professional fields. Our customers now have digital access to almost 2,000 journals, online books, major reference works, databases (in both chemistry and evidence-based medicine), and Current Protocols laboratory manuals.
Today, over 12 million users in 87 countries around the globe use Wiley InterScience as an online resource for scientific, technical, medical and professional information. We continue to add vital new content to Wiley InterScience through journals and book programs, many of which are produced in collaboration with some of the world's most prominent societies and organizations. Wiley is also digitizing and launching journal backfiles to improve research channels and facilitate content discovery for our users.
Digital access to Wiley's academic content is available through a range of electronic products and services designed to help teachers teach and students learn. In 2004 we launched WileyPLUS (formerly known as eGrade Plus) a comprehensive Web-based service that provides content in an integrated online format organized around teaching and learning. It includes a complete online textbook, interactive homework and assessment tools, and a suite of resources that allow professors to create class presentations, correct homework, grade tests, and track student progress. WileyPLUS is available for over 100 Wiley titles in courses across the Business, Science, Social Science, Engineering, Computer Science, and Modern Language curriculum. Since it was first introduced in 2004, more than 250,000 students have purchased WileyPLUS as part of their course materials.
In September 2005, Wiley introduced Wiley Desktop Editions. Encompassing more than 80 of our Higher Education titles in Science, Math, Business, Social Sciences, Engineering, and Computer Sciences, Wiley Desktop Editions are innovative, electronic versions of Wiley's leading textbooks, developed in partnership with VitalSource Technologies. Desktop Editions are downloaded to a student's computer and are available when the student is offline. This allows the student to have the permanence and portability of a print book in a digital format.
As we approach our 200th anniversary in 2007, Wiley continues to invest in technology and expand our resources to provide more content to more people in more ways than ever before.
